Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide

Losartan Potassium & Hydrochlorothiazide a prescription drug intended for:

  • Lowering the blood pressure with no known cause among adults, adolescents and adolescents 18 years of age.
  • Reducing the risk of stroke in adults with an enlarged heart and high blood pressure.
  • Treating chronic heart failure in adults who cannot take ACE inhibitor medications.
  • Treating diabetic kidney disease in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Losartan contains Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide. Losartan potassium is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). Angiotensin is a protein that tends to raise blood pressure. Losartan relaxes the blood vessels which results in lower blood pressure. Lowering the blood pressure increases the blood and oxygen supply to the heart.  It also decreases the risk of stroke in patients with an enlarged heart.

Losartan treats kidney disease as it treats hypertension because hypertension can cause damages to the kidney. The Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic. It protects the kidney and slows down the progression of kidney disease. It works by causing your body to make urine which helps the body get rid of extra water and salt.
