HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

High blood pressure is a known condition. It is the pressure of your blood against the wall of your artery is higher. This can lead to health problems, such as heart disease and stroke.

The cause of blood pressure can be a reason the way your heart pumps. And the resistance of your blood that flows in your arteries. The more blood your heart pumps, and your artery is narrower. It results in high blood pressure.

CAUSE

For adults, it’s difficult to identify the cause of high blood pressure. This condition called as primary (essential) hypertension. While other people have high blood pressure, caused by the underlying condition. It’s called secondary hypertension. The cause of this condition includes:

  • Thyroid Problems
  • Genetics
  • Sleep Apnea

RISK FACTORS

Some risk factors for this condition cannot control. (e.g your age or family history) But it has many risk factors, including:

  • A person with Diabetes
  • A person with high cholesterol
  • Your Gender
  • Having an Unhealthy diet

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

The most dangerous part of this condition is that you’ll never know that you have it. This condition has no symptoms and warning signs. The only way to know is through regular checkups. If your blood pressure is high, certain symptoms may experience include:

  • Blood in the Urine
  • Chest Pain
  • Fatigue
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • A severe Headache
  • Short Breathing
  • Blurred Vision
  • Pounding in your chest, neck & ear

If you have the above symptoms, see your doctor right away. This condition leads to other serious illnesses. Such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney problem.

DIAGNOSIS

To start your diagnosis, your doctor will measure your blood pressure. by putting inflatable arm cuff .and by using a measuring gauge.

The measurement has four categories:

  • Normal Blood Pressure
  • Elevated Blood Pressure
  • Stage 1 Hypertension
  • Stage 2 Hypertension

Your doctor will take two to three blood pressure readings in separate appointments. Before diagnosing you with the disease. He will recommend you to do the “Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring”. To confirm if you have high blood pressure.

If you have any type of the condition. Your doctor will review your medical history. Then he will conduct a physical exam. After that he then recommends you some test. (e.g Urine tests, Blood tests,  Cholesterol test) to confirm you with this condition.

COMPLICATION

The condition can lead to different illnesses including:

  • Heart Attack
  • Stroke
  • Heart Failure
  • Dementia
  • An aneurysm
  • Metabolic Syndrome
  • Weak and narrow blood vessels in your kidneys
  • Thick and narrow blood vessels in the eyes

PREVENTION

Living a healthy lifestyle, can keep your blood pressure in range. It can lower your risk for other health diseases. A healthy lifestyle includes:

  • Eating a healthy diet.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Performing physical activities.
  • Quit Smoking.
  • Limiting an alcohol intake.
  • Take your Medicines.

TREATMENT

A treatment for this condition comes with a lifestyle changes. Your blood pressure treatment depends on how healthy you are. But this isn’t enough. Your doctor may recommend you to take medications such as:

  • Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors
  • Calcium channel blockers
  • Alpha-beta blockers
  • Renin inhibitors
  • Vasodilators
  • Central-acting agents
  • Folic Acid
  • Fibers & Minerals
