Famciclovir

Famciclovir is a prescription antiviral medication. It is prescribed to treat viral infections caused by herpes viruses such as:

  • Genital herpes due to herpes simplex
  • Shingles due to herpes zoster
  • Cold sores around the mouth due to herpes simplex
  • Preventing recurrence of genital herpes
  • Preventing herpes simplex virus from infecting people with an impaired immune system

Famciclovir can stop the virus from reproducing and infecting more cells. It is a “prodrug” that does not act directly against the virus. Once inside the body, it is then converted into another form of medicine known as penciclovir. Activated penciclovir blocks the action of the virus enzyme which prevents it from reproducing.

However, Famciclovir won’t cure the infection. The virus that causes infections continues to live in the body even between breaks. This drug can only decrease the length and the severity off the outbreaks. It will help the sores to heal faster and to keep new sores from forming. It also decreases itching, pain, burning and tingling. In addition, it can also decrease the risk of the virus from spreading to other parts of the body among people with a weakened immune system.

Why Buy Famciclovir?

Famciclovir is US FDA-approved specifically for the treatment of shingles or herpes zoster. It is also effective at controlling HSV-1 and HSV-2 symptoms in patients with compromised immune systems. Famciclovir is a nucleoside analog drug that mimics one of the building blocks of DNA. It is sometimes used as an alternative for acyclovir and valacyclovir.

How to Take Famciclovir?

Famciclovir comes as a tablet form to take by mouth. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed. Take it at the first sign of the outbreak.

  • Shingles: Take 500 mg every 8 hours for 7 days
  • Recurrent cold sores: Take 1500 mg as a single dose
  • Recurrent genital herpes: Take 1000 mg every 12 hours for one day.
  • Suppression for recurrent genital herpes: Take 250 mg twice a day.
