Guidelines before using Losartan

The dose of Losartan should be reduced in patients with hepatic impairment. Cozaar is not prescribed for patients with severe renal impairment. Cozaar when given with lithium can cause lithium toxicity. The concomitant use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and Cozaar can increase renal impairment. The patient should be advised to avoid potassium supplements during Cozaar treatment. Losartan is not recommended for pediatric patients below the age of 6. Avoid taking Cozaar during pregnancy and lactation.

What are the common dosages of Generic of Cozaar?

The recommended starting dosage of Cozaar is 50mg once daily. In patients who are on diuretic treatment, the dosage of Losartan is 25mg/day. In pediatric patients of age more than 6, the recommended dosage is 0.7mg/kg/day.
