What Are the Uses of Imiquimod Cream?

How does Imiquimod Works?

Imiquimod belongs to a class of medication called an immune response modifier. It stimulates the body’s own defense system to produce cytokines. Cytokines are natural defense chemicals. They have a different function in the immune system.

They help to fight against infected cells. They do not allow the virus to multiply in the cell. Thus decrease the number of abnormal cells by removing the infected cell. It stimulates immune cells in the skin to attack the virus or other abnormal cells. Which cure or prevents the disease.

How to use Imiquimod Cream?

The Imiquimod Cream is available in the form of 0.25 mg sachets (5%). The dosage depends on the type of condition that has to be treated.

  • Adult Usage: –
  • Wart around genitals and anus: –

-Apply 3 times in a week on alternate days.

  • Superficial basal cell Carcinoma: –

-Use 5 times per week (continuous 5 days) for 6 weeks. Leave it for 8 hours.

  • Actinic Keratosis: –

-Use 2 times per week for 16 weeks at a period interval of 3 days.

  • Comments: –
  • Apply the cream prior to normal sleeping hours.
  • Apply it to the infected area.
  • Rub it until the cream is no longer visible.
  • Wash with mild soap and water to remove cream after the desired time.

Uses of Imiquimod cream?

  • It is used to treat the following skin conditions.
  • Actinic keratosis on face or scalp.
  • Superficial basal cell carcinoma.
  • Warts on the genital or anal area.
  • It is also useful to treat bladder cancer (orphan).
  • It may be prescribed for other purposes not listed in the medication guide.
